LCF Committee on Education Shares Social Initiatives

The League of Corporate Foundations (LCF) Committee on Education (CommEd) led “Investing in the Future: a Sharing Session on Social Initiatives” on 11 April 2012 at the Microsoft office in 6750 Ayala Office Towers.

Technology has been taking on an increasing role in the non-profit sector’s delivery of efficient social services, according Atty. Raul Cortez, the Legal and Corporate Affairs Director of Microsoft Philippines, who discussed how adopting information technology (IT) begins with the necessity for operational efficiency, then moves on to the optimization of service delivery as the next step, which leads to NPOs maximizingtheir impact with strategic innovations of IT. In support of this, Microsoft Philippines’ Corporate Citizenship programs have been helping NPOs improve their IT adoption through Microsoft's software donation program, community technology skills program, and developer community support.

Atty. Cortez was followed on the podium by Novartis Foundation for Sustainable Development’s President and CEO Dr. Klaus Leisinger who spoke about transforming the business of giving back. He shared how businesses need to include development goals in their business goals.

Capping the event’s presentations were the updates shared by the guest of honor, Bro. Armin Luistro FSC, Secretary of the Department of Education, on the national situation of the education sector vis-a-vis the classroom shortage, among others.

He encouraged the private sector to support the classroom-building project, Bayanihang Pampaaralan (BP), through the TEN Moves campaign that advocates donating Php10.00 a day for ten months to help build 10,000 classrooms nationwide.

An informal discussion on the speakers’ experiences in implementing their respective programs followed Secretary Luistro’s presentation, which inspired LCF President Camille Buenaventura to suggest an LCF-led campaign for BP.

The League would like to thank the Committee on Education for spearheading the event, and Microsoft Philippines for sponsoring the venue.
