One Meralco Foundation energizes Marilao community

Forty families residing in Platinum Village, Brgy. Loma de Gato in Marilao, Bulacan recently benefited from the gift of light given by One Meralco Foundation under its Community Electrification Program. The initiative is part of Meralco’s corporate mission of nation building by extending assistance to marginalized communities to be able to avail their own service connections.

(L-R) Marilao, Bulacan LGU representative Fortunato Endaya, Brgy. Loma de Gato Chairman Rogelio Pascual, Meralco North Business Area head Redentor Marquez, Meralco North Distribution Services head Antonio Abuel, Jr., and Meralco Chief CSR Officer and One Meralco Foundation president Jeffrey Tarayao gets ready to light up Platinum GK Village.

For many years, the residents did not ask for anything else except for light – to have a brighter community and to have light at our homes so that our children and grandchildren can study even at night),” shared Expidita Quirante, president of the home association in Platinum Village and whose family was part of the forty households who now have access to adequate, safe and reliable electricity at their homes. Aside from energized homes, streetlights were also provided to the community.

Brgy. Loma de Gato Captain Rogelio Pascual was very appreciative of the program saying, “Malaki ang pasasalamat namin sa One Meralco Foundation dahil mas maliwanag na ang aming komunidad. Napakaswerte namin at pinagpala kami ng Maykapal na maisakatuparan ang pangarap naming taga-Platinum na magkaroon ng ilaw (We are very grateful to One Meralco Foundation because our community is now a lot brighter. We are so blessed by God because our dream of having light became a reality)!”

Present during the community launch were Brgy. Captain Rogelio Pascual, Marilao LGU representative Fortunato Endaya, Meralco executives led by North Distribution Services head Antonio Abuel, Jr. and North Business Area head Redentor Marquez, and One Meralco Foundation president Jeffrey Tarayao.

“Since 2007, we have been answering the call of nation-building by powering over 6,000 households as well as several communal infrastructures such as public schools and farm irrigation systems. By providing communities especially those marginalized with electricity, we hope to empower them to transform and uplift the quality of their lives,” said Tarayao.
