Manila Water Foundation celebrates partnerships for the BOP

In a move to thank its partners and donors for supporting its advocacy for Base of the Pyramid (BOP) communities, Manila Water Foundation recently held an event with the theme “Celebrating Partnerships”. Said event showcased Manila Water Foundation’s journey since it started in 2005, as well as its plans moving forward which are focused on water supply and sanitation, water and environmental education, and community assistance and livelihood.

Manila Water Foundation Executive Director Carla May Beriña-Kim explained that while Manila Water Company pursues social and environmental initiatives in its east concession area in Metro Manila, Manila Water Foundation helps uplifts the lives of BOP communities outside the urban areas of the metro which do not have access to clean drinking water and suffer from poor health and sanitation conditions.

For the past few years, Manila Water Foundation has already provided safe-to-drink water supply to nearly 1,600 families from BOP communities and has empowered 11 community-based cooperatives to become competitive social enterprises and business partners. These programs, along with Manila Water Foundation’s other community assistance programs, have reached out to more than 3,000 BOP households.

Manila Water Foundation President Gerardo C. Ablaza, Jr. hopes to achieve more in the coming years. He envisions the Foundation to take a leadership role in providing access to water and proper sanitation for Base of the Pyramid communities. Through Manila Water Foundation, he is confident that the Philippines will no longer be a country that is lacking basic services such as clean, drinking water.

To be able to carry out more programs for its target beneficiaries, Manila Water Foundation encourages other organizations and businesses to focus their attention to the special needs of poor families in hard-to-reach areas and to enable positive changes in the quality of life of Base of the Pyramid communities.
