Former President Fidel V. Ramos, Chief Justice Artemio V. Panganiban (Ret) and other distinguished officials from the government, business, academe, and diplomatic communities graced the book launch.

“The three books convey the very essence of what we do in the Metrobank Foundation. We encourage people to excel in what they do by recognizing excellent contributions in their respective fields. But it does not end there. Their shining examples should serve as inspiration to others worthy of emulation. And we aim to further propagate their stories of triumph and excellence through three (3) coffeetable books,” says Metrobank Foundation president Aniceto M. Sobrepeña. “While we are known for our recognition programs, it is only now that we are coming up with publications that will share stories of triumphs and dreams fulfilled by the exceptional individuals we have honored in the past,” he continued.

The book Metrobank Foundation Exemplars features 15 inspiring stories of select  awardees of the Foundation’s  recognition programs   - Search for Outstanding Teachers (SOT), the Country’s Outstanding Police Officers in Service (COPS), The Outstanding Philippine Soldiers (TOPS), Metrobank Art & Design Excellence (MADE)  and Search for Outstanding Journalists  whose shining examples, inspiring dedication, and excellent performance in their respective fields have helped shape their communities and the nation. This collection of profiles was written by 2003 Metrobank Foundation Outstanding Teacher Dr. Queena N. Lee-Chua.

Acclaimed writer and art critic Cid Reyes documents the significance of the Metrobank Art & Design Excellence (MADE) in the Philippine art scene and its involvement in uplifting culture and art as catalysts of nation-building in MADE of Gold. The 252-page book presents in full color winning artworks and designs since 1984– 140 paintings, 12 sculptures, 7 Metrobank Prize for Achievement in Sculpture (MPAS) awardees, 13 interior designers and 6 architects. Selected artworks featured in the book are on exhibition at the second floor of Vicente Manansala hallway and at the Little Theater lobby of the Cultural Center of the Philippines until April 14.

Now on its second volume, the 10 Outstanding Filipino Teachers documents the journey and the legacy of ten (10) Metrobank Foundation Search for Outstanding Teachers (SOT) awardees. Written by 2003 Metrobank Foundation Outstanding Teacher Dr. Jaime An Lim, the book pays tribute to everyday heroes in education. It features the teachers’ background, best practices and legacies.

The first volume of the book by Dr. Queena N. Lee-Chua was a finalist in the 2005 National Book Awards of the Manila Critics Circle.

In his message, Chief Justice Panganiban expressed that “Metrobank Foundation takes part in building the community and the nation as it rewards excellence in people and institutions.” “Indeed, excellence is both the Foundation’s beacon and anchor. Metrobank Foundation has chosen top awardees whose life and career it proclaims and honors in these books. They are the best of the best of Metrobank Foundation’s search for excellence among our people,” he added.

Since its establishment in 1979, the Metrobank Foundation has sought to promote and foster the values of excellence and achievement among Filipinos. In its commitment to make a difference in the lives of its chosen stakeholders and contribute to nation-building, the programs of the Foundation have always endeavored to encourage and reward individuals and organizations to be the best they can be, and in the process, inspire the rest to similarly strive for the highest standards of performance of conduct in their respective professions.
