WeatherPhilippines Pushes Nationwide Coverage of Automated Weather Stations

In a span of only two years and seven months, WeatherPhilippines has deployed a total of 559 Automated Weather Stations (AWS) as of the end of September 2014, and is set to meet its target of deploying 750 AWS all over the country by the end of of December 2014.

The last municipalities that received a total of 65 AWS during the month of August and September were the priority meteorological sites in the provinces of Lucena, Iloilo, Bohol, Daet, and Naga.


The AWS Rollout and Capacity Building Trainings, conducted by WeatherPhilippines, taught mayors and municipal disaster-risk reduction and management officers (mdrrmo’s) how to install the automated weather stations, and how to access the processed weather information on These trainings were organized by WeatherPhilippines with the goal of empowering local governments towards their advocacy of proactive disaster-preparedness and climate change adaptation.


WeatherPhilippines will continue its AWS deployment until it reaches its goal of deploying and installing a total of 1000 AWS nationwide.
