|Jollibee Foundation Scales Up its School Feeding Program|
Jollibee Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of Jollibee Foods Corp (JFC), scales up its Busog, Lusog, Talino (BLT) School Feeding Program for school year 2012-2013 covering more than a thousand schools this June. This means more than 40,000 public school pupils will be assured of daily lunch, which will help encourage the pupils to attend school everyday.
To support the scaling up process, the Foundation gathered all its partners nationwide for a two-day summit dubbed as “Soar High Together.” The event was attended by more than 400 supporters composed of local government units (LGUs), non-government organizations (NGOs), academe and private sector who have joined hands with the Foundation in a common pursuit of reducing hunger among public school pupils.

The 2012 Busog, Lusog, Talino Summit serves to thank all the BLT partners who participated in developing and expanding the program over the last five years. “This Summit is a way to recognize and honor all of you, our partners for joining Jollibee Foundation in its journey the past years. It also serves as a moment to galvanize our commitment to the cause we have embraced – to bring a brighter future to our children through education and food security,” Jollibee Foods Corporation Chairman and CEO Tony Tan Caktiong said in his message. The summit also served as a venue to share best practices, discuss common challenges and strengthen the BLT Community of Practice (CoP). A fellowship dinner gathering on April 26 marked the occasion followed by a whole day learning workshop on April 27.
Over the years, BLT has become a platform for communities to unite against hunger in schools as leaders found ways and means to generate needed resources. Mayors John Bagasao of Bayombong Nueva Vizcaya, Marivic Belena of San Jose City, Nueva Ecija and Roger Panganiban of Padre Burgos, Quezon have taken the lead in integrating BLT in their respective education agenda making it possible to cover all public elementary schools in their districts.
With the continued success of BLT in many of the schools that participated on the program, and with the support of all partners, public school pupils nowadays have a better chance to continue and finish their studies.
The Busog, Lusog, Talino (BLT) School Feeding Program is an initiative that addresses hunger among Grades 1 and 2 pupils and helps them to stay in school and learn better. Since 2007, BLT has been providing daily lunch to undernourished public school pupils for 136 days or eight (8) months during the school year (July-March).
