As one of the triple bottom lines, LCF members undertake programs that promote greater environmental responsibility and contribute to a more sustainable environment. Projects tackling air/carbon reduction, water and sanitation, waste management, biodiversity conservation, ecosystem protection and management, supply chain management, energy efficiency, and disaster response are the members’ major endeavors. Recently, the committee also made inroads in carbon footprint reduction and greenhouse gas accounting in response to the alarming phenomenon of climate change. These initiatives are on top of the regular environmental compliance programs being carried out by each member company.

"Klima ng Pagbabago sa Nagbabagong Klima"
The Environment Committee special event at the 2014 LCF CSR Expo, held July 22, 8:00am - 5:00pm, at the Cleanergy Science Center and Museum, Laguna.
The effects of a changing climate are already upon us, and this cannot be anymore denied or ignored. The Philippines is among the most vulnerable countries in the world to weather-related extreme events, earthquakes and sea level rise, and is already feeling the consequences of climate change.
The unprecedented natural disturbances of the last five years - Ondoy, Pepeng, Sendong, Pablo, and Yolanda - already give us fair warning of how our environment is sadly and tragically reflecting our actions: strong typhoons occurring in areas which historically have not experienced severe weather, some 10,000 lives lost, economic damages and loses amounting to nearly $19 billion.*
As we renew our efforts to undertake strategic and sustainable CSR as a vehicle for nation building, it will serve as well to embrace the realities of a rapidly changing climate to promote a climate of change in all of us: a change in our ways, in our thinking, in our plans.
It begins with us. It begins with small steps and simple acts. And it begins now.
